He’s paid to make the masses laugh but for late night funny man David Letterman, certain aspects of his life are no laughing matter.

Letterman, host of CBS’ the “Late Show with David Letterman” has struggled with depression and how to come to grips with his extramarital affair after he was blackmailed for it.

Letterman recently appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN show “Oprah’s Next Chapter” and revealed that he was unsure about what his wife would do after news emerged in 2009 that he had been blackmailed over an extramarital affair. Regina Lasko, wife of Letterman had been married to him for just six months at the time the extramarital affair was revealed and the two shared an infant son.

In his interview with Winfrey, Letterman also shared that he had suffered from depression. He told Winfrey that depression had gripped him and had a stronghold on his life: ” You can’t wait to get back in bed at night… I went through this for about six months,” Letterman told Winfrey.

After coming under scrutiny for poking fun at Sarah Palin’s daughter Willow Palin, the late night comedian further shared with Winfrey that he did have remorse for joking about the teen. He further stated that an apology was definitely in order if he were to progress as a late night comedian: “I felt like Sarah Palin was somebody I wanted to be able to continue to make fun of,” he said. “And I felt like if I don’t apologize … I will not be able to go forward [with that].”
