From KHOU.com: Crime Stoppers and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office need help in identifying several people possibly tied to credit and debit card skimming in Houston and Katy. Investigators said several suspects appear to be putting skimming devices on bank teller machines and gas station pumps. The banks say the suspects used the data to create cloned cards, which they’ve used to steal $61,500 from about 144 accounts.
“Basically the crooks are getting better. Their equipment is getting a lot better and sophisticated, so it’s really difficult to tell if these skimmers are actually in place,” said Jeff McShan with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. McShan said his best advice is for consumers to keep a close eye on transactions in your bank accounts. If you notice something suspicious, report the fraudulent activity to the bank.
Investigators do believe these skimming suspects are working together.
Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the charging or arrest of the suspects. Information may be reported by calling 713-222-TIPS or click here. Full story and additional photos: http://www.khou.com/news/crime/photos-katy-houston-atm-skimming-suspects/286089708
