McDonalds Recalls ‘Step-iT’ Activity Trackers

McDonalds has been working hard updating ingredients and kids meals to include healthier ingredients and options.

In that same effort, the burger chain took a big step towards healthier options but unfortunately had to take a few step backs due to an activity tracker toy recall.

McDonalds began including “Step-iT” Activity Trackers in all Happy Meals to encourage kids to focus on their steps per day and get moving. The bands came in two styles, “Activity Counter and a motion-activated ‘Light Up Band.”

Now, the trackers are being recalled due to reports of skin irritation and burns.

CNET reports, “According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission website, over 70 reports have been filed of skin irritations, burns or blisters.”

The Consumer Product Safety Commission website states about 29 million units in the U.S. must be returned to McDonalds and are no longer included in Happy Meals.

“Consumers should immediately take the recalled wristbands from children and return them to any McDonald’s for a free replacement toy and either a yogurt tube or bag of apple slices.”

It’s too bad I thought this was a great toy for kids. Hopefully they can figure out a safer material to create these with and try again!
