A teacher’s new homework policy in Ft. Worth is going viral for declaring 2016-17 a homework free school year.
According to WGNtv, Samantha Gallagher posted a photo of the note Mrs. Brandy Young sent home on Facebook.
The note explained the new homework policy and said it would be a student=friendly approach to the school year.
“After much research this summer, I am trying something new,” the note begins. “Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year.”
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but most teachers send home ridiculous amounts of homework. Kids spend hours doing homework! So I think this approach to homework is a fantastic idea. Families will have more time to spend with each other instead of stressing out over projects and packets of busy work.
“Research has been unable to prove that homework improves students performances. Rather, I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early.”
This is awesome. I hope more teachers adopt this policy.
