Houston mayor makes August 24th ‘Simone Biles Day’

Spring gymnast and Olympic champion, Simone Biles, returned to Houston today and the city was there to welcome her!

Biles impressed the world at the Rio Olympics this summer and she has the 3 gold and 1 bronze medal to prove it. Every performance had us floored. It only made since for her hometown to show love upon her return and exactly just what we did.

Mayor Turner, congress woman Sheila Jackson Lee, local media and fans along with the Texans Cheerleaders and a marching band awaited Simone’s arrival at Bush Intercontinental Airport this afternoon. Both Simone and her mother were floored with the surprise turnout and were even more astounded when Mayor Turner announced that August 24th is now officially ‘Simone Biles Day’ in Houston!

Spring is holding a parade for Simone from 2:30pm-3:30pm this afternoon. Parade organizer, Kaeleigh Jordan, told KPRC Local 2 that they just want want to give her a hometown welcome and let her know how proud they are of her and everything she does to represent their community in such a positive aspect.

Congratulations again and welcome home Simone!
