Listen, love it or hate Pokemon GO is a massive success and isn’t exclusive to just kids. We’ve all seen our friends playing that we would have never expected. And there’s no denying the upside of Pokémon Go, the silly game has brought people together who may have otherwise never left the house, it’s gotten kids off the couch and playing outside, it’s even generated love with the Pokemon GO dating service. Those could also be considered a downside, however….it gets people out of the house and walking around, yes, but they’re roaming around the globe with their faces buried in their phones fairly unaware of their surroundings.
An accessory called Pokémon Go Plus promises to resolve this issue and now it’s release is finally confirmed for September 16th. The new device looks like a Google Maps pin (see photos below) in Pokemon ball colors and it can be either clipped onto your clothes or worn around your wrist like a watch. It connects to your phone via bluetooth and lets users know about in-game events, like the spawning of a wild Pokémon and nearby Pokéstops, with vibration and an LED light. It’s like the apple watch but for Pokemon. Well, that’s a stretch, but you get the idea.
The device/accessory will retail for $34.99 and is compatible with the iOS and Android versions of Pokémon Go. Does $35 seem like too much to spend on an accessory for a smartphone game or are you really in to Pokemon GO and think it’s worth it? There’s certainly a market for it, after all, Pokémon Go has been downloaded over 500 million times and still growing.
