Apple Has Created An App Called Swift Playgrounds That Will Teach Your Kids To Code

When I first read about this app, my first thought was….. man, I wish this was available when I was in school. Technology is the way of the future and having an understanding of how things work is such an asset to everyone, especially the younger generation. Well, Apple has introduced an app called Swift Playgrounds to help people learn coding and it’s kind of amazing. Apple’s description is as follows: Swift Playgrounds is a revolutionary new app for iPad that makes it fun to learn and experiment with code. You solve interactive puzzles in the guided “Learn to Code” lessons to master the basics of coding, while additional challenges let you explore code and create programs that are engaging and unique. Swift Playgrounds requires no coding knowledge, so it’s perfect for students just starting out, from twelve to one-hundred-and-twelve. The whole time you are learning Swift, a powerful programming language created by Apple and used by professionals to build many of today’s most popular apps. And because it’s built to take full advantage of iPad and the real iOS SDK, Swift Playgrounds is a first-of-its-kind learning experience. Apple first introduced Swift during the company’s WWDC event this past June.

In an article posted by MobileSyrup, it was said that Swift Playgrounds employs the same programming language used by developers to create apps for Apple’s various platforms. The company has described it as simple enough for students with no coding experience to understand, but at the same time, powerful enough for experienced programmers to get creative with Apple’s platform. MobileSyrup was also told, “Everyone should have the opportunity to learn coding, and we are excited to bring Swift Playgrounds to the next generation of programmers looking for a fun and easy way to explore key coding concepts using real code,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, said in a statement. “More than 100 schools around the world have already committed to adding Swift Playgrounds to their fall curriculum, and we can’t wait to see what students create with it,” he continued. Swift Playgrounds comes with several features, including built-in templates that users can modify for their own use, the ability to share their creations with friends via Mail or Messages, or by posting to the web.

Download it today and see for yourself – Swift Playgrounds is available on the App Store for free HERE and is compatible with iPad Air and iPad Pro models, as well as iPad mini 2 and later running iOS 10.
