I decided to check out a the latest addition the Gr8 Plate Hospitality Group: The Union Kitchen located at 3452 Ella Blvd. This location opened in October of 2016 and is still expanding! The wine list that owner Paul Miller has put together will absolutely surprise you with some rare and amazing selections on there. If you’re not that into wine there is a fully stocked bar and a very good selection of craft beers as well.
I stopped in for lunch on a random Tuesday a few weeks after they officially opened for business and started off with the Smoked Salmon stuffed with cream cheese and accompanied by some loose greens and other things I’m exactly sure what they were but it tasted great. They also have fresh baked bread upon request at no extra charge!
Next I moved on to the Carnitas Potstickers. They’re slow roasted pork carnitas wrapped in a delicate wonton served with ginger lime salsa verde. These had a nice mild and spicy bite that made them a perfect appetizer.
For my main dish I moved on to the Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich which was lobster, avocado, brie, sun-dried tomato & pesto with a tomato basil bisque soup. I skipped the sun dried tomatoes because well I hate tomatoes but this grilled cheese was superb and easily the best grilled cheese sandwich I’ve had in sometime and the tomato bisque was creamy and the perfect match for the sandwich.
I finished off this meal with a one of the best Bread Pudding that I’ve ever had the pleasure to eat. It was so rich and indulgent that I couldn’t put my fork down. Each one of these is baked to order and will be the perfect ending to your lunch or dinner. I highly recommend saving room for this at the end.
If you’re up in the Oak Forrest/Garden Oaks area do yourself a favor and check out the latest addition to the growing culinary scene up there.
